Board of Regents Sets Memorial for Former Chairman

A memorial service will be held for J. Frank Miller III, former chairman of the Texas Tech University System Board of Regents at 1:30 p.m. Friday (Aug. 10) in Hodges Chapel, First Christian Church, 2323 Broadway.
Miller, of Dallas, died of a heart attack June 1. Gov. Rick Perry appointed Miller to the Board of Regents on Nov. 18, 2003. He was elected chairman in May 11, 2007. He previously served as vice chairman of the board from Jan. 1, 2005 to May 11, 2007.
Miller was chairman and chief executive officer and founding managing partner of JPI Companies, a national multi-family residential development company. He had nearly three decades of experience in the real estate industry, beginning his career at Southland Life Insurance Company. Prior to founding JPI Cos., he held senior management positions with Foster Mortgage Company and Las Colinas Corp. He also served as executive vice president of Southland Financial Corp. and as president of Southland Financial Corp.鈥檚 residential development and management subsidiary.
Miller earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree in business administration from Texas Tech University in 1974. His wife Kay is also a 1974 graduate of Texas Tech. They have six children, ages 13-25.
The memorial service is open to the public.
