Gov. Perry Appoints Walker as Regent for MINI传媒 System

John Walker, who received his bachelor鈥檚 degree from Texas Tech in 1968, was the Student Government Association president while he was on campus.

Walker replaces John Huffaker of Amarillo, who is resigning for business purposes.

Gov. Rick Perry announced this afternoon (Jan. 24) his appointment of John Walker to the Board of Regents for the MINI传媒. 

Walker, of Houston, has been appointed to replace Regent John Huffaker of Amarillo. He will serve nearly a three-year term that ends Jan. 31, 2015. Huffaker is resigning for business purposes.

鈥淭his is a great appointment,鈥 said MINI传媒 Chancellor Kent Hance. 鈥淛ohn Walker was the Student Government Association president while he was on campus. He loves Texas Tech and has been one of our most generous donors.鈥

Walker is president and CEO of EnerVest Ltd. He is a member of the National Petroleum Council, past chairman of the Independent Petroleum Association of America, and a past board member of the Natural Gas Council, Houston Producers鈥 Forum and Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners.

Walker serves as a member of the Texas Tech Foundation Board. He is also an advisory board member of the Texas Tech University Rawls College of Business, a member of the Spring Branch Hispanic Task Force, and past board chairman of the Sam Houston Area Council Boy Scouts of America. He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy.

Walker received a bachelor鈥檚 degree from Texas Tech University (1968) and a Master of Business Administration from New York University.

Huffaker was appointed in February 2009 and served as chairman of the Finance and Administration Committee, vice chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Carr Scholarship Foundation and a member of the Audit Committee.
