Dear Angelo State community,

I hope that all of you are safe, sound and well during this time.

As all of you know, our Vice President for Finance and Administration, Angie Wright, agreed to step in as the interim president of Angelo State University鈥攁 position she agreed to take until a search for a new president has been completed.

In the coming weeks and months, the University and MINI传媒 will undertake that search. Today, I write to you as Chairman of the Angelo State University Presidential Search Committee, in order to share the process by which we鈥檒l identify the University鈥檚 new leader.

I also write as a proud and devoted ASU alum. I graduated from ASU in 1976, and I consider my years at the University to be among the most formative and joyful experiences of my life. I have been fortunate to serve the University in many different capacities since then, and I am honored to have the opportunity to help guide the selection of our next President. The Presidential Search Committee, listed below, will join me in this effort and includes a cross-section of alumni, faculty, administrators and dedicated supporters from ASU and the MINI传媒:

-        Jamie Akin, Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations, ASU; ASU alumna

-        Kendra Burris, Deputy Chancellor, Office of the Chancellor, MINI传媒 System

-        Joe Henderson, former president of Porter Henderson Implement Company; ASU alumnus

-        Crystal Kreitler, Associate Professor, Department of Psychology and Sociology; President, Faculty Senate, ASU

-        Jean Ann LeGrand, Chairman Emeritus, ASU Alumni Association; Supporter and Board member, ASU Foundation and Angelo State Athletic Foundation; ASU alumna

-        Alvin New, Partner, BNB Ventures; Owner, 4N Ranches; Director, Texas Tech Foundation; ASU alumnus

-        John Steinmetz, member of the MINI传媒 System Board of Regents; CEO of Vista Bank

-        Paul Swets, Dean and Professor, College of Science and Engineering, ASU

I appreciate their willingness to serve, and I look forward to working with them to identify and recommend a first-rate leader as our 11th President. We will begin our work immediately.

Our University has made great strides over this past decade. We鈥檝e grown our campus, reached record levels of enrollment, and earned accolades in everything from athletics achievement to academic excellence. In the last 10 years alone, we鈥檝e awarded our first doctoral degree, finished our first capital campaign, and completed our first new academic buildings on the main campus since 2005. These are but a few of the many reasons that ASU has been ranked as one of the nation鈥檚 best colleges every year since 2010 by The Princeton Review.

We can look back with pride on all of these achievements鈥攁nd we can look forward with purpose. To that end, we will conduct a national search for a leader that supports and upholds the vision, excellence, and culture of the Ram Family. We are looking for someone who can continue the momentum of the last decade and who can lead the university with integrity, ingenuity and inspiration.

I am grateful for your support and commitment to ASU, and I invite you to reach out to me with any questions, suggestions or feedback through the ASU Presidential Search email: ttus.angelostate.pressearch@ttu.edu.

I also wish you and yours the very best during this time, and I look forward to celebrating with you and our extended Ram Family when we announce our next President.

My very best,

Mickey Long, '76
