Workers' Compensation

Workers' compensation is regulated by the State of Texas and provides medical and loss of income benefits to employees who are injured or contract an occupational illness while performing duties within the course and scope of their employment at the Texas Tech University System.

All claims for Texas Tech University, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso must be processed through the MINI传媒 System Office of Risk Management and must comply with operating policies, which are featured in the box to the right.

EMPLOYEES

If you are an employee who has been injured on the job, follow the steps below:

Employees complete these forms ONLY if you have had medical treatment:

  1. Employee鈥檚 Report of Injury                             
  2. Employee鈥檚 Election Regarding Utilization of Sick and Annual Leave
  3. Witness Statement                               
  4. Authorization For Release of Information
  5. Employee Acknowledgement Form (Careworks)

Follow these steps when returning to work:

SUPERVISOR

Call 911 immediately if your employee needs medical attention or send them to one of the WC Facilities - List of Approved Providers. If it's after hours, employees may go to the ER then schedule a follow up with one of the approved lists of providers.

Supervisors and/or injured employee will need to report the injury to the .

If treatment was not needed the online reporting is all that needs to be done.

If medical treatment was necessary, Supervisors must do the following:

  1. After reporting the injury to the online reporting system, have the employee complete the Workers' Compensation packet (the forms). Once completed, email all the forms to ttus.workerscomp@ttu.edu.
  2. If the employee does not return to work or is removed from work the next scheduled workday, Supervisors must notify the WC Claims Coordinator.
  3. Supervisors must receive a Work Status Report for each appointment from the injured employee. This State form should be emailed to the WC Claims Coordinator.

Return-To-Work Policy

If the employee is placed on restrictions, a Bona Fide Job Offer will need to be offered to the employee and sent to the WC Claims Coordinator. If the employee is unable to return to work notify the WC Claims Coordinator immediately.

Supervisors, it is your responsibility to inform your injured employees about where to go to seek treatment; make sure the online reporting is completed; collect the work status report from your injured employee; and inform the WC Claims Coordinator of the status of your employee until they are released back to full duty.
